Laser Hair Removal

One of the most powerful applications for laser technology is laser hair removal. This gentle, effective treatment is safe for use on almost any area of the body, including sensitive places such as the face, chest, and bikini area. A complete series of laser hair removal treatments for our Augusta and Evans-area patients is effective enough to permanently reduce unwanted hair in any of these areas. At the Georgia Center, we use the state-of-the-art Sciton Profile Nd:YAG laser, the fastest-scanning hair removal laser available. Laser Hair Removal Procedure

Laser hair removal is performed by Dr. Chen using Sciton Profile’s Nd:YAG computer-automated laser device, which is designed to carry out precise and accurate treatment. The laser energy is concentrated on the hair follicles, causing the hair to stop growing. A laser hair removal session takes no more than thirty minutes, and sometimes much less if the area being treated is smaller.

You may need to be treated from 4 to 6 times at intervals of 4 to 6 weeks. There are three phases of hair growth – anagen, catagen, and telogen. At any one time, the population of hair in a select area is distributed into these three phases. The hair cycles switch every 4 to 6 weeks. Only hairs in the active growth phase, anagen, can be successfully treated.

Laser Hair Removal Recovery

Immediately after a treatment session, the skin will be mildly pink. A variety of skin care products are available for treating redness and irritation. Using them promotes faster healing after laser hair removal, but most of our Augusta and Evans-area patients find that even without such aids the healing process is quick and any discomfort is minor.
